A management company contacted us about one of their homes in Ann Arbor, MI. Tenants reported hearing scratching in the attic and bats in the house. We were called out for an inspection of the home and we found several bat droppings in the attic. This indicated a large colony of bats roosting in the attic. Upon inspection we found these moth balls in the attic. Of course to no surprise they did not work to solve the bat problem. Moth balls, lights, repellents, poisons, or high frequency noise emitters do not work to get rid of bats. FTC regulations are trying to band these devices. In Michigan it is illegal to kill bats. You may receive a fine of $5,000 if caught poisoning or killing bats. Unfortunately for this home the bats will be living there for another month or so until this awful Michigan weather breaks. Bats will be excluded once temperatures reach 45 degrees and above at night.
